Stephanie M. Garcia Richard from Los Alamos, New Mexico is an American politician and a Democratic member of the New Mexico House of Representatives representing District 43 since January 15, 2013. She currently chairs the House Education Committee and serves on the Labor and Economic Development committee. She decided not to run for re-election in the state house and her term will end January 15, 2019. She was elected as New Mexico's Commissioner of Public Lands on November 6, 2018 after a hard fought race against Republican Pat Lyons. She is the first woman to hold the position
